I must say that Jaycen Joshua is one of my favorite mixing engineers. I have learned a lot from listening to his mixes as well as watching him on Pensado’s Place. In his current interview on Pendsado’s Place, he talked about the vocal chain he used on The Weeknd for the Reminders Remix song. It consisted of the fabfilter EQ, RVOX, a Multiband Compressor, (He uses the MCDSP one) and the Air EQ. The biggest takeaway I got from this was the way he uses a shelf to filter out some of the build-ups you get on vocals around 300-500 Hz. I had always used bell curves to do this, but the shelf sounds a bit cleaner to my ears.
