Frequently Asked Questions

Our Mixing and Masteirng services explained

What is Mixing and Mastering?

Mixing is when you take all your individual tracks and blend them together using compression, EQ, reverb, delay, and a host of other effects to make it sound like one cohesive piece. This is also the time you would pitch correct and line up vocals.

Mastering is the final stage of the song-making process. This is where you add the final sparkle to the mix and make sure it will stand up comparably in quality and loudness to commercially released music.

How do I send my song for mixing?

If you’re using Pro Tools, Logic, LUNA, or Studio One you can send the session file. (please include all audio files)  The only thing you must do is convert any midi or virtual instrument tracks to audio because I don’t always have the same synths or sound banks.

For all other DAW’s you have two options:

  1. If you have a rough mix that you have been working on and somewhat like, I would rather start mixing where you left off. So, in that case, I ask you to send one set of stems “wet” with effects, compression, eq, etc. left on (minus any mix bus limiting) and one set dry with no effects or eq or compression. (If you have to auto-tune or any other pitch plugins you like the sound of, you can leave them on the dry stems as well.
  2. If you have a really basic ruff mix, and we are mixing the song from scratch you can just send the stems dry.

In both cases, make sure each file starts at bar one and plays to the end of the song. Please include a rough mix in the folder as well. When ready to send, zip the folders and title them with your order name and email. Next pick the package you wish to purchase, and once you have received the confirmation email with the upload link, you can upload your zip file. NOTE: We have Logic and Garageband at the studio as well, so if you have issues sending the stems we can sometimes arrange to export them here.

How do I send my song for mastering?

When sending your two-track mix for mastering, please send as a 24 or 16 bit .WAV file. Turn off all compression, EQ and limiting on the master fader. MP3 files are not acceptable for high quality mastering, and converting them in iTunes will not change this. You must bounce or export directly from your mixing software to achieve a true 24bit WAV file. When your ready, make payment and you will receive a link to upload.

Do you offer a money-back guarantee?

I don’t offer full refunds, but I do something better for new clients: I provide unlimited revisions on your first project. That way, we can go back and forth until you’re completely happy with the mix or master.

In the rare case that someone really doesn’t like the direction after the very first version, I’ll refund 50% of the project fee. This policy protects both of us — you can try my services with confidence, and I can make sure the time and effort that goes into every mix is respected.

Most of the time, a few small tweaks are all it takes to nail the sound you’re after, but the option is there so you never feel stuck.

How long will it take to get my song back?

For single-song mixes and mastering projects, I typically deliver within 3–5 business days. Full albums usually take about a week to a week and a half, depending on how complex the tracks are.

If you’re on a tight deadline, just let me know — I offer expedited turnaround for a small additional fee so you can get your music ready right when you need it.

Why is mixing and mastering important?

Mixing and mastering are critical stages in music production that ensure a polished, professional sound. Mixing involves blending individual tracks, adjusting levels, EQ, and effects to create a cohesive and balanced mix. Mastering provides the final touch, optimizing the track for all playback systems, enhancing clarity, and ensuring consistency and loudness across all platforms. Together, these processes transform raw recordings into refined, high-quality music that stands out in various listening environments

Can I request changes after delivery?

Absolutely. I want your song to sound exactly how you envisioned it, so I include revisions with every project. If something doesn’t sit right — whether it’s a vocal level, an effect, or the overall balance — just let me know and I’ll make the adjustments.

With my Unlimited Revisions option, you can go back and forth as many times as needed until you’re 100% happy with the mix or master. Most clients only need a tweak or two, but the guarantee is there so you never feel stuck with something you don’t love.

Do you offer bulk discounts for albums or EPs?

Yes — I usually offer around 10% off when you book a full EP or album project. Mixing and mastering multiple songs together also helps me keep the sound consistent across the whole project, so it’s a win-win. If you’ve got a bigger project in mind, just reach out and I’ll put together a custom quote for you.

Do I need mixing and mastering?

Yes! Have you ever heard the saying you only get one shot? Well in the music business these days that has never been truer. With so many people making music now you need your music to stand out from the crowd. When I mix and master your song you are getting a radio-ready product that will compete against anything the major labels put out.

With all the time and effort you put into your music don’t shortchange yourself and skip on the most vital step of the recording process.

Do you use analog or digital gear?

I mix in a hybrid using analog and digital processing. Also, 80% of my mastering is done in the analog domain. I use analog equipment from Bettermaker, Avalon, MCDSP, Hendy Amps, and Dangerous Music. I find the mix of analog and digital give me the best of both worlds.

How to send Logic Pro X Session?

We have Logic Pro X at our studio so you can send over the logic session. However, we do ask that you convert all your MIDI/Virtual Instruments to audio tracks.

How to send PreSonus Studio One Session?

We have studio One Pro at the studio so you can send over the Studio One sessions. Please make sure to include the media folder, and make sure to convert any MIDI/Virtual instruments to audio.

How do I export for Ableton?

We have Ableton Live here at the studio if you are having issues exporting the files. But if you can please export us one set of stems wet and one set dry.

Is online audio mastering done by a human or AI?

When you hire me for online mastering, you’re getting a real human with years of experience — not an algorithm. Every song is listened to in detail, and I make decisions based on the emotion, dynamics, and feel of the track.

AI services like LANDR or other automated platforms can only apply presets; they don’t understand context. For example, they won’t know that your vocal needs to cut a little more for radio, or that your kick and bass are fighting in a way that could cause problems on streaming platforms.

With me, you get the benefit of trained ears and professional gear — I treat every track differently so it comes out sounding polished, competitive, and true to your vision.

Do you tune vocals / edit timing?

Yes — vocal tuning and timing correction are part of my mixing process when needed. My goal isn’t to make your voice sound robotic or unnatural, but to make sure it sits in key and feels polished without losing its character. I use tools like Melodyne and Auto-Tune to smooth out pitch issues, and VocAlign to tighten up doubles or harmonies so they lock in with the lead.

If you want heavy tuning for a modern pop or hip-hop effect, I can do that too — it’s really about matching the vibe of your song. The idea is always to enhance your performance, not replace it.

Is my music kept private and secure?

Absolutely. Your songs and files are 100% private and secure when you work with me. I never share your music with anyone without permission, and all projects are stored safely on my studio systems. Once the job is finished, your files are archived for backup, but they’re never distributed or used in any way outside of your project.

Protecting your creative work is just as important as making it sound professional — so you can feel confident knowing your music stays yours.
