I have been working with Cam Meekins for quite some time now. He’s much more than a client, I consider him a brother. He has done really well for himself and I’m super proud of his progress. He came by the studio the other day to work on some of his new songs and I thought it would be a great opportunity to make a video on proper vocal recording.
Many songs I get from people recording at home could be so much better if they were recorded better. A bad vocal recording can make a great song just ok. And an ok mix can be a fantastic mix if it’s recorded well.
Seeing how Cam records about 90% of his music at his home studio, I thought it would be helpful if made a video going over his vocal recording process.
So here it is!
In the video, we talk about the most important factor which is the room you record in. We also cover where to stand when recording, and proper microphone gain staging.
Please let me know if you have any questions in the comments below. I believe this is a super important subject that can’t be overlooked.
